How to put together pc with new + existing parts?

The new parts I'm getting are a motherboard, cpu and memory. I am planning on using my current hard drive which already has windows xp installed on it. Can I just hook everything up and try to start it or do I have to install a mobo cd? Any help on setting this up would be great, thanks! How to put together pc with new + existing parts?
You should reinstall windows. You will have to install new chipset drivers etc.How to put together pc with new + existing parts?
Never tried using an existing OS on a hdd from another motherboard, it would be much better to format it and install your OS fresh.
If you have a retail version of Windows, I think you can switch motherboards without reinstalling it.If you have an OEM version, you'll need to reinstall it or do a repair install, and I think you'll have to ring Microsoft when it comes to activating it instead of doing it over the internet.Either way, it's more ideal to do a complete format and reinstall anyway. Minimizes hardware problems and such. Just backup your files and format the drive before you switch out the motherboard, ready for a clean install when you put the new one in.
