Right now I'm using AVG Free 8.5, CCleaner, Ad-Aware Anniversary Edition, and Comodo Firewall. Any good other free software to help? Also is McAfee any good, or are there some programs to buy that are much better than the free ones?AntiVirus software?
Personally all I use is Avira AntiVir. I would recommend Zone Alarm if you need a firewall, but I am just fine with the windows firewall. That and that many programs will bog down your system unless you remove their realtime scanning functions. I personally find McAfee a huge system hog and I always have had issues with it.AntiVirus software?
Spybot Search %26 Destroy.
well, the antivir programs that are bought are usually better then free ones, they get updated WAY more, and more often, they have a truckload of active scans running all the time, unlike alot of free ones. The list you wrote are some of the best free programs you can get at all tho, and most of them are so close to bought programs, that the difference is moot. The antivir tho, AVG is good for a free antivir, but even so its not insanely effective.Mcafee has a good antivir scanner, and active scanner (often catches the virus before it can get the chance to enter the pc at all) But havent used it for quite some time, altho as I understand it they both use the same actural antivir scanner (McAfee is pretty much a bundle of smaller scanners licecened elsewhere). It also has a quite good firewall, and antispyware/malware scannerThat scanner it uses is often claimed to be the best in the world. Also Mcafee, is very easy to use, and uses very little power from your PC, unlike certain other known brands -.-

In my experience of using the McAfee security suite a year ago, it was a horrible system hog. My system took almost an additional miniute to boot, games ran slower, and it was incredibly difficult to uninstall and never worked against the only virus I had with it.
Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareThough no matter how much anti-virus, spam, malwaver..etc programs you get, all that matters is the user.

As much as I hate to tell people to never get Mcafee, I still do it. Like you said, the side effect it has on the computer overall is just crazy.

The best program I've ever used it ESET Nod32 Smart Security and Anti-Virus. Better than AVG, Avast, Mccafe and all the rest imo.

I use this too, but it isn't a AV.... I suggest Avast if your going for free AV's.
