My PC has AIDS. Seriously.

My new HP laptop is retarded; it takes longer time to boot than my 8 year old PC. Specs are:Intel Core2Duo P7350 2Ghz3gb RamNvidia 9600GTWindows Vista Home Premium SP1The Security Center is permanently turned off, and I can't turn it on. Panda Antivirus doesn't show that I have any viruses, yet I feel the Pc is full of them.I've tried to defragment the HD but it's as if nothing happens.Your help towards a fellow PC userwould be greatly appreciated. My PC has AIDS. Seriously.
How fast does the hard drive go? That or the motherboard could bottle necking the speed of load up, because it can only read the OS to boot up as fast as the hard drive can read the data and transfer it through the motherboard. But the 2 ghz cpu is kinda slow as well.My PC has AIDS. Seriously.

wtf hp did'nt give u a virus program is this the first boot or is it always slow
HDD Bottleneck?errrr anyway, chances care you just have loads of **** running in the background, run a MSCONFIG and turn them all off (apart from your anti-virus). Now while we are on the topic of Anti-virus's, Panda isnt good, i suggest using AntiVir or Avast (Panda and AVG are pretty turd).

I think so too,,,also people on here like to blame stuff on dust and heat.
In the beginning the PC was very fast, but as time passed it went slower everytime I turn it on. I'm thinking to turn over to NOD32 or Norton though.I've also got Norton System Works, but they don't seem to do anything to make the situation better.
Your best bet would probably be to backup your data, format the HDD %26 reinstall Vista, you said its a new HP laptop so it most likely has the license key embedded into the bios on the motherboard, so activating it wouldn't be a problem. You can also try using the recovery partition if you have one, but then all the bloat ware would return :cry:I would highly recommend ESET Smart Security 4 or NOD32 or whatever its called...You should also check out the ''Startup'' tab inMSCONFIG and untick all the unnecessary ones (Start > type msconfig in search bar > press enter)Or just get a Mac, JOKE :D
personally i don't expect speed from major pc makers like hp, dell etc. until you go in and uninstall every single program they cluttered it up with. make sure you know what you're getting rid of, but most of it is useless anyways.

Try deleting you temporary files, getting rid of extra processes and programs, change your settings to stop things from autobooting on start up, and defragging your hard drive as well.

90% of the time I see a slow computer, the primary reason is background processes. I have fixed a variety of computers by configuring them in a clean boot setup or something similar. This method also works for Vista and Windows 7, just make sure instead of going to run, put ''msconfig'' in the search box right on the startup menu. When I figured this out, not only did games run better, the computer booted 3x faster than before. The security center issue certainly sounds like a virus. Keep in mind all anti-virus software is not equal. In fact some free ones actually outperform ones with annual subscriptions fees. I personally use Avira Antivir for my anti-virus solution and can vouch on its effectiveness. You could also use SpyBot Search and Destroy for getting rid of Spyware and adware.
