Vista and XP problems

I really don't know where else to ask :S.There's this sony vaio vgn-nr130fe (horrible names btw) that I want to reformat and install XP instead of Vista. However since this computer had already been reformated and it had a crappy version of XP I tried to activate the compatibility mode for the SATA hard drive, and the option didn't appear. I can't reinstall vista because none of the sony drivers will work (I installed the dell version of vista, since that's the only one I have... it didn't work out). The only thing that works in this thing is Ubuntu. Anyways... what I'm asking is if anyone knows how I can reinstall windows XP because I keep getting this annoying screen saying ''no hard drive was found ... press F3 to exit'' and I looked for an answer in forums... None of them were very helpful... the closest one to an answer said to download nlite. But I'm not sure how to use it, I can't install the driver onto my xp cd.Can anyone please help me out?I've already downloaded the drivers, including the HDD compatibility one... but Nlite doesn't let me install the drivers I keeo getting and error sign :S. Vista and XP problems
sorry. I keep getting an* error sign Vista and XP problems
You need a HDD comp-compatibility driver to detect your drive?

Unless you're running raid you should be able to just put in your XP disk and install it, you install driver after you install your OS
Well I don't know if I'm running raid or not but I can't install my XP ... I keep getting a message saying ''there was no hard disk detected'' and I can't continue... or start the installation for that matter

I very much doubt you're running RAID on a laptop and it's not really the thing you run without knowledge of it.

Go in to the BIOS and see if it turns up there.
that's the problem, the bios on this lap is pretty much empty. it only has two options in advanced... and none of them have anything related to raid... or the hard disk :S.

I'm trying once more to install the drivers to the xp installation cd with nlite.

That's not how you install hard drive drivers.

For XP i think you have to use a floppy disk, for Vista you can also use a USB stick.
... I think that's not how it works :S
