if i was building a pc from scratch, which would be the better choice? get a 1156 socket mobo or a 1366 socket mobo?PS - Will LGA1366 support i9 or will i have to buy a whole new mobo if i plan to upgrade to i9 in the future?LGA1156 or LGA1366?
1156 as i want bang for the buck. LGA1156 or LGA1366?
If you want best bang for buck then i5 and socket 1156 is the best choice. If you are wanting the i9 (Gulftown) next year then i7/socket 1366 is what you will need. i9's are going to socket 1366. So, if you go with i5 now then you will have to upgrade your mobo as well for the i9.
1156, I see no reason to get the Phenom II/i7 series anymore...sorta.
wat abt performance wise, i5 vs i7? alot of difference or not so much?

not so much difference.

but if i wanted to upgrade, 1156 doesnt support i9, you saying i shud still stick to 1156?

you really want a six-core proc? not to mention it will cost you a arm and leg.
1156, I see no reason to get the Phenom II/i7 series anymore...sorta.
Well the PII-965 and i5 with SLI-capability cost the same...$245-CPU+$100-Mobo or $210-CPU+$135-Mobo. Alot of people are on budgets though, so saving $56 to get the PII-955@$189 or even save $75 for a PII-945@$170 could be a good move. Things don't just change overnight.I say for budgets Phenom IIs are good; but if you got that little extra and don't wanna get the i9 when it releases, get a 1156; Finally, if you got more than a little extra and may or may not want the i9 get the i7-920.
true say, i guess...but i was thinking i shud be abt to upgrade if i ever wanted to

If you like to upgrade then the 1366 is for you, when the i9's come out and the like.
get the i5
get the i5

1156, I see no reason to get the Phenom II/i7 series anymore...sorta.
Well the PII-965 and i5 with SLI-capability cost the same...$245-CPU+$100-Mobo or $210-CPU+$135-Mobo. Depends what you are looking for. Core i7 isn't down and out yet, just battered a bit here and there.
depends really. are you using more than 1 gpu or do you plan on it? then get the x58 socket 1366 it doesnt look like lga1156 will see x16 x16 capabilities any time soon so youll be stuck at x8 x8.if youre using one. than the lga 1156 is your best bet
Get the Core i7 860. It outperforms the LGA1366 based Core i7 920, is cheaper (when you factor in motherboard/ram), produces less heat, uses less power, has higher turbo mode, and is newer. The Core i9 processors are going to cost around $1000 when they come out, I highly doubt you will need a set up like that. The only advantage you get going LGA1366 is support for triple channel memory, more PCI-e lanes for a SLI setup, and QPI. However, the only time these will come into play is for extreme high end machines. I'm assuming you aren't building a server/workstation, so it's best to save the money and invest in a better GPU, PSU, and HDD.
