Ocasional Slowdowns

Yep.Basicall title says it all, sometimes when listening to music, watching a video or playing a game, my PC slows down for like 3 seconds. Also, sometimes I hear a weird noise, is it my sound card drivers that need an update? And last but not least, the BIOS post message recognizes 6GBs of RAM, but the Welcoming Center detects 3, the setup of games detect 2.Specs:Asus P5Q MotherboardClub 3D 4870x2 2GBIntel Core 2 Duo E8400 (2 CPUs) @ 3.00 (No overclock)Creative X-Fi Xtreme Audio6GB DDR2 Kingston 800MHz650W PSU500GB Seagate Barracuda 7200.11PS: I heard the weird noise, sometimes, when I'm not listening to anything, dunno if that helps.Ocasional Slowdowns
Well, it may be any number of different things.....maybe you should defrag your pc??And you mentioned a wierd noise....maybe a fan, have you opened your case and tested?????Can't help you much.
Ocasional Slowdowns
No, its actually the speakers sending the sound.
What OS are you using?
Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit.
Bump.
Your OS can only see a max of 4 GB of RAM. Considering your PC will always assign paging memory to your hard drive you will only be able to use around 3-3.5 GBs from Memory sticks. If you want to use all 6 GB you will need to use a 64 bit OS.
Oh ok, thanks guys.

Then what may be causing the slowdowns?
That is hard to say. It could be a number of things. Updating all your drivers is the first step. You can try running games with just the minimal amount of services running by going to the run prompt in the start menu. Type in msconfig. Select Diagnostic startup. Also, select the services tab and check the ''hide all microsoft services'' check box. You will then need select disable all button. This should turn off every non microsoft service. Hit apply and reboot. Try playing the game again to see if there is any slowdown. If you can I would suggest you try reloading the OS.If you still have slow downs it could be a hardware problem. Run a memory test software to see if you have a bad Memory Stick. I would also suggest only using 2 GBs of RAM with two paired sticks. 32 bit Windows runs best with 2 GBs.Start removing cards as one by one. It will take some time but eventually you will find out what is causing the slow down. Personally, I try to keep my system very clean. A lot of problems can be avoided if you just don't download every junk and buggy software on the net. Just because it's free doesn't mean you need it. Keeps things simple and neat and your system will run nice and fast for years.
Drive updates fixed them, thanks guys.
