How much for a good computer?

So I've decided that I want to save up for a gaming PC instead of buying a bunch of games and other junk I usually spend money on. So my question is what is a good budget for a PC? I'm looking for a high end gaming machine that will last me for a while. Would say $1200 get the job done? Or more than that? How much for a good computer?

Yes $1200 is a good budget. Umm I could build one for you cause it would be better bang for the buck than buying a prebuilt. How much for a good computer?
$1200 including what? Just the tower, or everything? (Monitor, Keyboard, speakers, mouse) If it's the former then $1200 will get the job done no problem whatsoever, high end parts great build, if it's the latter then you'll be perfectly fine if you build smart and shop deals.
1200 for the Desktop only is a good budget. The computer would last you about 3 years. Though, if you need to buy monitor, speakers, keyboard, mouse,...etc, then you gonna need more.
For about $600 you could make a high end gaming PC.http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=366177I used this budget Neogaf build as the basis and actually ended up beating their UK price.
For just a box, $1200 is pretty generous. I made my rig (the base parts, I have been upgrading little by little as time goes on) for $989.

Yeah I'm planning on building this one. I've bought my last few computers from big box stores like Best Buy, Computers Plus (local store?) but I know it's much better to build one.

$1200 for tower, monitor, everything. I'm not set on a budget yet, I haven't even really started seriously saving so I've got a while. $1200 too little?
$1200 is enough. I usually spend $900 on the box itself, and a hundred on extras. But since I already have a keyboard, mouse, sound card, sound, etc, those aren't relaly that important on my budget.
Depends if you want to overclock or not, also what resolution you want to play.
$1200 would get you a decent prebuild or a highend custom build with a nice monitor and speakers.

Good to hear. Starting saying right meow.
Depends if you want to overclock or not, also what resolution you want to play.
Uhhhh... the good one. : / Honestly I dunno. What is a good resolution?
$1200 should be more than enough, I recently built a very nice rig (the parts, monitor, speakers, keyboard, mouse and a lot of other extras for around $1100)So I think you should be good with $1200.
What monitor are you getting? Just saying if you spend $400 on a 24'' you won't have much left for a beefy video card to run it, then again you can just lower the res. :? 1200 is more than enough, i7 860 for sure then 4890 or GTX275.
$1200 would be a killer pc with all the latest parts if you were able to build it yourself. Tho I would recommend seeing Avadirect.com if you dont know how or dont want to build yourself a PC.

If you do, go to newegg or tigerdirect
Check this one out; an i7 860 Barebones kit for $880
if you need everything $1200 can get you a system with a phenom II x4 945, 4gb ram, 1080P MONITOR, and 2 hd4890s in CF. basically a system capable of maxing out crysis at 1920x1080 and getting 40fps.
