Hey guys - just finished installing the OS again on my new build (see sig below) with the intention of overclocking the CPU by quite a decent margin. Currently my CPU is running at 18-20C (not when cores are maxed out) and was wondering what I can do to overclock it. I'm new to overclocking, but not to PC builds etc and thought I'd ask first before I break something. I know that putting the voltage to the RAM over 1.6V can be dangerous, but does it need to be that much to get the most out of it?New and shiney!
Just go to the BIOS (im sure u know what that is), and slowely up ur FSB by just a tiny bit each time. Then restart your pc, and run prime95 or something, and if u get a bsod or any other error, go back to ur previous voltages.Thats just a simple guide, dont touch the voltages at the beginning, I doubt u will need to.http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?articleid=1804%26page=7#flash_set2http://www.wikihow.com/Overclock-a-PCTheres two very basic links, to teach you, u should be able to get the I7 920 to about 3.6ghz without touching the voltages.http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/overclock-core-i7,2268.htmlTheres a very specific link about OC an I7
