Question about i5 and Turbo Boost

When does it turn itself on? Is it whenever it is being used past a certain percentage? Does it only work in single threaded or dual threaded applications?Question about i5 and Turbo Boost
i think its whenever its needed. i believe it works on all applications. if the aplication uses only one core, then just that core will go into turbo mode or if it uses all 4 cores, then all 4 cores go into turbo modeQuestion about i5 and Turbo Boost
That's not what I read. I read that all of the other cores are turned off.
If only a single core is boosted (and the others idle), you get a higher frequency boost than you get when 2-4 cores are boosted. The boost is limited by the chips temperature, so 3 idle (hence cold) cores gives you more to play, temperature wise, with on the last core.
So, if I'm gaming a dual threaded application, will two cores get the boost?

Yes. The two threads will run on two different cores (the i5-750 does not support hyperthreading). An i7-860 or 870 chip does support hyperthreading, so there you could risk both threads running of the same core (wich would be boosted).

im pretty sure it will keep it cool cuz i have one and im running my phenom 2 940 at 3.7 on stock cooler atm.
