Do any of you think the 5870 will be a success or fail? From the jump to dx10, the 2900xt, i considered a fail, could have been a lot better but wasnt. Dont get me wrong, it was very good and served me very well, it just could have been better :-\. Now with the jump to dx11, do you think the 5870 will be able to preform as well as you hope?5870 success or fail? *poll*
If you are just getting it for dx 11 then no I dont think it will be THE card to switch PC gaming from dx 10 to dx 11. There just won't be enough games out with dx 11 in the 5870's life time. If you are getting it for the improved performance than yes I think it will be a successful card that would last an owner a good 2-3 years. It is rumored to be 1.5 times the power of a gts295 at a price of $399. Sounds like a deal to me...5870 success or fail? *poll*
ii's very expensive for me
They have no competition at the high end of the market until Nvidia launches GT300, so yes, as long as they don't have competition and then when Nvidia launches, they adjust prices to stay very competitive I don't see a problem with people scooping them up.
based on the price yes but personally I expect nvidia to kill it
I just think it will fail because something better will come out a year later. So I guess I think every card is fail until we reach the maximum performance allowable by all known and unknown laws of computer, physics, etc.
This topic is FULL of fail! We dont even know the specs of it yet, let alone knowing how well its going to play games.

Much ignorance, i dont know where to start.
The 2900XT looked like a great card on the spec sheets. Mediocre in performance. It's to early to tell, so I am predicting at the very least that the the 5870 will be a barrel of monkeys.

So iam ignorant for stating a FACT.....go figure.
i think itll be a success. based on the last two launches. ATI/AMD hasnt been aiming for the highend sector as of late. they focus on price to performance and efficiency over raw power. so the GT300 aka the geforce 300 (nvidia dropped the whole GT,GTX,GTS,ect naming scheme)should be a more powerful card overall, however itll probably cost a lot more than the 5800 series and probably offer a weaker value to nonenthusiests.
We will have to wait until it comes out. Until then, anything is just wishful thinking.

But I think his point is that the thread was meant to be speculation so expecting something beyond just that, speculation based onwhat little we knowis kind of pointless.

yeah well your ignorant since you came back to this fail thread that you so called! now that's a fact .
after the gt300 coming im totally selling my 4870x2 and buyin a gt300
Fail of the price and fail of DX11 not enough games will not be out to support it.

What? If it does prove to be very powerful why dont they deserve to charge a premium price for it? Also you cant expect a wide range of DX11 games to be out before the actual cards are released.
is it me or is pc gaming slowing down to a pace where 5870 doesn't seem necessary at its release date. For example, all the upcoming games will run perfectly fine on my 4870x2.
