Hi guys, I'll be getting a Dell laptop at the end of this month, please note that I'm in India and the prices here are really crapped up when compared to US(I feel jealous) and this is the best I could find, and importing would be pointless since import duty/tax is pretty high on electronics. Oh and if you are going to deny based on the fact that its Dell, really I don't have a problem with them being Dell...My dad knows the regional Manager as Dell advertises in my dad's paper, and I can get my stuff done pretty quickly.

So how is it? My uses will be mainly for coding and I need portability, thus the 15.6'' size and large battery. I do want to play some games although that's on rare occasion, but still how will it fare in LOTR : Battle for the middle earth II, BF:2142 and Empire:Total War(I got seriously low hopes for this one)? Also how does the 4570 fare against a desktop 7300GT?How is this Dell laptop?
some benchmakrs for the 4570, the site also has benchmarks for all the other mobile gpus, too so you can compare:

Looks ok but if you are gonna do gaming as well i really suggest looking for one with a 9600m gt or a 4650. It shouldnt cost more than $60-70 to get a laptop with those cards instead with the 4570

I think you're missing the point, I'm in India, I don't plan serious gaming on it. That's the most balanced laptop I found(My primary task is not gaming), but I do want a fair idea of how well it will perform with those games. I basically want a sketch on how good it will be against my lowest end desktop, which is :
E4500 @ stock speeds
3 GB DDR2 667 RAM
7300GT 512 MB.
Although I did find a HP with AMD Turoin x2 RM-74 @ 2.2 GHz with 4650, but the disadvantages were that it had a HDD with less space, it had a weaker battery, it had no support for Wireless-N(!! IMPORTANT !!) and was more expensive...and it possibly had a weaker processor(I think).
I recently found out how Dell's are made in a T.V. commercial... THEY ARE MADE OUT OF COLORED CLAY!!!!!

I also live in a country where electronics are much pricier than US but still an extra 60-70 bucks for a 4650 instead of a 4570 it will be a major upgrade and a better experience. Now of you are only gonna do light gaming and dont plan running games like crysis, stalker, clear sky or upcoming good looking games then i guess that 4570 will be ok for medium settings
Here is a comparison table between laptop gpu's
I only care about the games I listed, plus I cannot find 4650 in any decent offerings(although I'll search more) and even if I find it, it will draw more power thus reducing batery life.

Ok, and?

The difference between power draw of the 2 cards is really minimal despite the 4650 is much faster as for the games you listed i guess you should be able to play mostly high settings( dont over do it with resolution though) at LOTR and BF2142 but as for total war i'm not quite sure that you can get more than a mix of low/ medium settings ( mostly medium maybe) since its a very demanding game
The monitor only allows 720p so he should be fine.
I find 720p annoying 'cause there's no space to do anything. Its a personal thing, but take that into consideration.
The monitor runs at 1368x768, I feel that's a descent res. for 15.6''. I can get a 1600x900 screen but I feel it might be an overkill for that size/GPU

true dat. 1080p ftw.
I've grown up with 1024 x 768, I don't think 1368 x 768 will be bad.
Anyone who can give a comparission with my lowest end pc? Also if I get a screen with 1600x900 res will the gpu be enough for the games? Also would 1600x900 be too much on a 15.6'' screen?
