I'm not really experienced with computers at all when it comes to parts and assembling, but I thought I'd give it a go. A friend of mine helped me to find a good match up, but I wanted to run it through some more experienced people just to make sure. Here's the kit itself.http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=5226069%26CatId=4149CD drivehttp://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4965245%26Sku=L12-1334Video card. (He tells me to buy two of them if I wanted it to be amazing, but I'll probably go with one for now.)http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4893208%26CatId=3585So yeah, do you guys think this is a good buy? I plan on using it mostly for gaming, but also media such as music and movies. Also, my friend said he'd help me build it if I had any trouble. I plan on ordering it today or tomorrow. Is this good for my first barebone kit?
$880?!?; you could make an AMD Phenom II 965 for that. What's the point of getting that CPU when your GPU is lacking? Is this good for my first barebone kit?
Proccessor - AMD Phenom II X4 965 - $245
Motherboard - MSI NF750-G55 AM3 SLI - $100
RAM memory - mushkin HP 4GB DDR3 1600 Dual Channel - $122
Video Card - GIGABYTE GV-N275UD-896I GTX 275 - $220
Hard Drive - Seagate 1TB 7200.12 - $85
Optical Drive - Sony Optiarc DVD Burner with LightScribe - $34
Power Supply - OCZ Fatal1ty OCZ700FTY 700W - $95
Case - COOLER MASTER HAF 932 - $140
Operating System - Windows 7 Release Candidate 1 x64 64-Bit - OEM - $10
Subtotal - $1051
And if you insist on getting that waste of money, you only need to replace the motherboard and obviously the CPU.
So spending that little bit more would make a huge difference you're saying? Cause' I woulden't mind that really if it helps out that much. I honestly don't know too much about computers besides how to use them (even then I'm pretty retarted). I'll show my friend this and see what he has to say. Thanks a lot for helping me out. Also, I don't quite understand how the windows 7 release candidate works. Is it just a watered down version of windows 7 you can use until the real one comes out in october? Cause I have beem trying to figure out what operating system I was going to use before that comes out.

Yes spending a little bit more is always better!

So, to that extent YES, more is a lot better.
