which one should i buy, for more power. and how expensive are the 1366 mobos?i5 750 vs phenom x4 965
sorry, i mean 1156 boardsi5 750 vs phenom x4 965
AMDPIIX4-965=$245
Mobo=(lets say) $100
i5=$200
Mobo=(at least) $140
So they're about the same price.
To be fair lets say that neither is better than the other.
I'd get the AMDPIIX4-965 'cause its known to function really well.
There are $100 LGA1156 boards. Getting either can't go wrong. CPU doesn't really matter in games anymore. I have a i7 920 with 2 cores disabled @ 3ghz atm for some power savings.

not for games. for a workstation, that can just do a little bit of games, i'm a ps3 gamer.
Then i7 is what you're looking for. They are king of CPU right now.

ya.... my question is, will the i9's be on 1366? because if they are it's gonna be i7 all the way for me. right now i just need a decent upgrade. i'm getting a full tower and a top of the line quadro fx4800 workstation graphics card, and 8 gigs of ram, but plan on buying a board that has more slots. then when i9 comes out i'm going to buy the best i9, more ram, and maybe SLI a second quadro. seems like a bad time to make a big upgrade right now, but my current comp is killing me.
Yeah i9 will be for 1366.
amd phenom 2 965 uses 140 watt , i5 uses 95 watt. so i5 is better

Meh, Cpu last pretty good nowadays in performance, so you dont have to upgrade for two years.

Lol...your judging everything to wattage ? PII aren't limited to 8x/8x bandwidth when you crossfire or sli, something that's gonna be important with the new gpus coming out. 790FX offers 16x/16x and 1366 offers 16x/16x or 16x/8x/8x unless you get one with a nf200 chip then it's 16x/16x/16x. i9 is only gonna be on 1366, it's the enthusiast socket, so expect higher prices for the cpus that are for this socket.
im just curious is a quadro better than sli gtx 295 because qaudro cards are ridculus in price
Not a chance. Workstation graphics cards are not intended for gaming applications.

The i5's are better than the PII's in nearly everyway:price/performance = i5clock for clock performance = i5They both overclock the same and cost about the same....go i5!
Then i7 is what you're looking for. They are king of CPU right now.
+1. Either that or PII 965 gets my recommendation. I7 is the king in that area.

Down with the handicapped I7! PII ftw!
If your going to a multi gpu setup, getting i5s are a waste, since already the GTX 295 is limited by a 8x pcie lane, if the rumors are true about the next gen cards, then having 8x/8x will limit multi gpu setups tremendously. If your going SLI or Xfire then x58 is the way to go.
As far as testing goes the P2 955 and i7 920 trade blows in almost every benchmark I've seen so how can a i5 beat a P2? and dont count Overclocking!
