Picking parts for a new PC!

This is an upgrade from a previous thread I made. :)

CPU - AMD Phenom II X3 HDZ720WFGIBOX

Motherboard - GIGABYTE GA-MA790GPT-UD3H

RAM - G.SKILL F3-12800CL9D-4 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3

Hard Drive - SAMSUNG Spinpoint F1 HD103UJ 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5''

I need a video card that's under $150. Something cheap for now, since I plan to get a better one in the future.

I also need to pick a optical drive, PSU, and a case.

Any recommendations would be much appreciated! :)

Thanks!Picking parts for a new PC!
HD4770 (~100$ I think) for graphics card I guess, and the Termaltake Speedo Advance case (http://www.hardwarezone.com/img/data/articles/2009/2832/tt-7.jpg) maybe would be cool, but let some others post for better options.Picking parts for a new PC!
Thermaltake Speedo is much of an overkill if you're looking to get a case and are on a budget. Its 200$ on Newegg, I'd rather get Coolermaster 690 for 70 and Phenom II 945/955/965 by pooling in more money for processor. For GPU I'd say 4770 can be a good choice if you want something low profile now and want to upgrade later, or for 150 you can also get a 4870. As far as PSU goes, I'd suggest either a OCZ ModXStream Pro 700W for 100$ or maybe a Corsair 750TX 750W PSU(120$, 99 after MIR). Or if you want to maintain low-profile get a OCZ ModXStream 500W.
What's your (sub)total budget?
I'd say get this motherboard with this EVGA card...That way you have the possibility of SLI and be able to take advantage of the EVGA policy where you can upgrade to a new, better EVGA card and pay only the difference.

My budget's around $700. :)

Thanks, I'm also going to upgrade my cpu later.
Lets see, your current stuff costs 405, and here are my suggestions

Get a Coolermaster 690 - 70$ (This brings it up to 475, sweet)

Get a OCZ ModXStream 600W Modular PSU - 80$ (This brings it up to 555$)

Get a Sapphire 4870 for 135$ (This makes this 690$ and you won't be needing to replace GPU anytime soon)

Alternatively, you can save 25$ in GPU by getting 4770 and pool in more money for a CPU(I'd recommend 945/955).
Processor - AMD Sempron 140 - $37
Motherboard - MSI NF750-G55 AM3 SLI - $100
RAM memory - mushkin HP 4GB DDR3 1600 Dual Channel - $122
Video Card - EVGA 01G-P3-1155-TR GeForce GTS 250 - $150
Hard Drive - Seagate 1TB 7200.12 - $85
Optical Drive - Sony Optiarc DVD Burner with LightScribe - $34
Power Supply - OCZ Fatal1ty OCZ700FTY 700W - $95
Case - COOLER MASTER Elite RC-310-BWN1-GP - $40
Operating System - Windows 7 Release Candidate 1 x64 64-Bit - OEM - $10
Subtotal - $673

The CPU you're gonna upgrade, so it doesn't make sense to spend a lot on one you're gonna replace; and the GPU is EVGA, so when you upgrade you only pay the difference 'cause of the step-up program. Spend the rest on a better case or PSU.

Thanks a lot! :)

Though, I'm kind of confused of how this ''step-up program'' works..

Thanks a lot! :) Though, I'm kind of confused of how this ''step-up program'' works..
You just gotta register your card; then you have 90 days to upgrade to a better card, and you'll only pay the price of the card you want - what you already payed.
Instead of upgrading the cpu later, I think I might spend some more money to get a better one for around $200.
Instead of upgrading the cpu later, I think I might spend some more money to get a better one for around $200.
Then I really recommend you get the AMD Phenom II X4 965 @ $245; but if not, the next best option is the 955 @ $189.
PII 955 costs $180 now, bests I5 without turbo and all non extreme Core2's. It's a clear choice for around $200, you can't go wrong. And with a little overclock you can get it to the skies.
IMO you should go with this for your vg-card its the same but you save some money on shipping and get a rebate

The only difference is the clock and you can make for that with a slight overclock
