sleep or shut down..

ive heard that putting your computer in sleep is better that shutting it down, but also ive been told that it leaves open to viruses and stuff like that..

i would like to know any info concernin sleep mode and shutting down, and wich is best option.sleep or shut down..
Sleep uses more power but it turns on instantly, Shutdown keeps your system tidy because the OS cleans up and memory is cleared. That's the situation in a nutshell. I would shut down if you're not using it and don't mind the boot up time.sleep or shut down..
Shutting down actually leaves your computer more susceptible, since restarts are often needed for trojans/viruses to become fully active. That being said, I just shut my computer down anyway, to save electricity.
I use sleep during the day as I enjoy being able to jump right back onto my computer with all my programs open in a couple of seconds. I shut it off at night most of the time, though.

The only problem with sleep mode is that you have to be careful about your peripherals waking the computer up when you don't want to and wasting power. My cordless mouse is really bad for that unless I turn it off completely, and my cat has a tendency to walk on my keyboard and wake it up too.

As for power used while sleeping, it's minimal at best and not much of a concern.
Its honestly not a big deal, i personally shut down but both have their pros/cons.
I'm always shutting down the PC and this is better than sleep mode because shut down the PC will save the electricity and the safety thing is the risk of getting damaged because of the short-circuit electricity is low. Therefore, shutting down the PC is always better than letting the PC stays in sleep mode.
